Who are they?

Truly, who are they? As in, ‘they’ will never elect a woman. ‘They‘ will never give you a chance.

Why have We The People been led down this path of believing that citizen government is dead?  Why have we willingly given over our lives and money to people who make a career out of looting the treasury?  Why do we refuse to stand up?

I am truly wondering this week, as I watch the debacle which is the ‘protesting’ going on in our cities.  If We The People do not like our corporate citizens, like Bank of America, then why do we continue supporting them with our dollars?  Dollars are like votes.  They have power, when they band together.  If you despise BofA’s new fees to use debit cards, move your accounts.  Refinance your loan.  Speak UP!  Don’t just bitch about it and expect things to change.

What really incensed me this year was the insanity in Raleigh to de-fund the Governor’s School program.  One of the more brilliant ideas of Terry Sanford, Governor’s School has enriched thousands of young minds within our great state over the past few decades.  I myself was a Governor’s School attendee in 1992.  It changed my life.  Had it not been provided by the state, my parents could not have afforded to send me.  However, the state supporting me helped keep me HERE.   We need brain power more than ever-to create jobs and start companies and change the world-and we need our North Carolina minds to enrich North Carolina.  If we stifle our youth and do not support those that will stretch all of us, they will leave.  The money for Governor’s School is a pittance-$750,000-and I would bet you that there is a redundancy in the current spending that could have been eliminated to save the program.

Or heck-couldn’t you use the Education Lottery money to pay for it?  Oh no, that’s right.  NOT ONE CENT from the ‘Education Lottery’ has gone to public education.  The state was sold a bill of goods in the form of the lottery….a regressive tax that is paying for what-helicopters?

Folks, we need a clear head and we need a fresh eye.  I will go to Raleigh and roll up my sleeves.  My business will manage without me for a while.  And then I will come home, having known that I gave up my corner for a while in order to do what I can for all citizens.
